We did Trans-Am cars last season, now it’s time for something a bit more modern. Introducing the Fourza Grand-Am Series!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Unlike our Trans-Am series where every car had the exact same upgrades across the board to start out with, the initial upgrades in this series will be specific to each car to ensure parity amongst the field is as close as possible prior to tuning and balance-of-performance adjustments (all cars in the series lap within 1.3 seconds of each other at Mugello and hit between 146-157 at the end of the main straight).
All cars will be initially built to A600 (or thereabouts depending on the rims you choose) and the list of eligible cars and their required upgrades is as follows (all other components that are not explicitly mentioned are to be stock):
2010 Nissan 370Z:
- Engine: race camshaft, street flywheeel

- Engine: This Camaro uses Forza’s twin-turbo swap glitch to be eligible for the series. First convert to a TT setup, then go to the engine upgrades and upgrade the turbos to race spec, and finally sell the race-spec turbo without installing another upgrade level first. You should now have a naturally-aspirated 465hp ZL1.

As Corey pointed out, I somehow forgot to include race transmissions in any of the cars’ required upgrades list;
if you wish to use race transmissions you may do so by removing an engine upgrade to compensate for the increased PI, do not touch any of the handling upgrades.
In the case of the Boss 302, M3, Challenger, Maserati, and ZL1 (which have stock engines) you can remove tire width.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
While those aforementioned upgrades are required, depending on what kind of times you set your car may feature more or less upgrades thanks to balance-of-performance adjustments. BoP adjustments will work same as they did last year: I post a lap time in the week prior to the race, and you take your A600 car out for about ten laps and see how you compare; if you’re lapping faster than the time I posted, remove some upgrades (starting with tire compound and width so you can still keep up on the straights) and if you’re slower, add some (preferably saving engine upgrades for last). The ultimate goal is to meet (but not exceed) my posted lap time.
I would also like to add a caveat to this section of the post:
BoP adjustments should only be used as a last resort and are not a substitute for practice.
The point of this series is to give everyone a chance to win regardless of skill level but it’s not fair to the rest of the field to have someone who put minimal effort into practice and tuning show up and blow their doors off with a huge power handicap (often times lapping two or three seconds faster than the field once they figured out the track). Other racers got really vocal about this towards the end of the season so this time around I’m going to have to be more adamant about lap times.
I promise you will enjoy these races more if you actually put in the time to get better instead of using BoP adjustments as a crutch; you’ll post more consistent lap times and will be racing with the pack the entire race instead of passing everyone on the straights only to lose position because you don’t know how to take the next corner. Spending just fifteen or twenty minutes after work or school for a few days during the week can really make a big difference.

Race Info:
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
- Since it seemed to work well last series, the lobby will open at 4pm EST on Saturday and races will begin no later than 4:30. Races will again last around 45min-1hr depending on what track we’re at that week and we could do endurance rounds at Road Atlanta and Le Mans if we all want to. If Saturdays don’t work for you another Opponaut (who I’m not sure would want me to share his post because it’s not finished) has a very similar alternate series in the works that will be on a different day so you can still race.
Assists and Damage/Tuning:
- Like last series, all assists are allowed but again we encourage you to use them sparingly. You can take a lot of time off your lap just by learning to actually drive the car instead of relying on electronic help to guide you around track.
- Damage and fuel and tire wear will be set to cosmetic only. Please avoid contact at all costs regardless.
- Tuning is not only allowed but encouraged; we’d prefer you spend time tuning your car as opposed to just throwing BoP upgrades at it.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
if you’d like to learn how to set up your car.
Grid Ordering:
- To be fair to everyone starting order will be randomized.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
- This will be a points-based championship series. Scoring is as follows: 16pts for 1st, 15pts for 2nd, 14pts for 3rd, 13pts for 4th, and so on, with 16th receiving 1pt. In the event we don’t have 16 racers we will score to the lowest position (e.g., 12 people so last place gets 5pts). DNF’s will be counted as your final finishing position so if you get disconnected or have to leave suddenly you’ll still get some points just for showing up.
- In the unlikely event that more than 16 people try to join a race, the lobby will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and anyone who doesn’t make it in won’t be racing for points that week. Sorry but we don’t play favorites or save spots, so be on at exactly 4pm EST when I send out invites.
- I’ll make another Excel spreadsheet so all you have to do is show up on Saturdays and race. Finish the season with the most points and you’ll get a shiny new Fourza Grand-Am Series trophy:
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Because I was lazy and only just now got around to making this post this season will be a bit abbreviated compared to the prior series, though only by a few races. You’ll notice these races take place every two weeks; like last year, we’ll be running an as-of-yet-undetermined series concurrently with this one that will take place in the off-weeks of this one. Order is not entirely final and is subject to change:
7/11: Sebring
7/25: Infineon
8/8: Road America
8/22: Le Mans
9/5: Maple Valley Raceway
9/19: Sunset Peninsula Raceway (reverse)
10/3: Road Atlanta
10/17: Mugello
10/31: Sedona Raceway Park
11/14: Circuit de Catalunya (National Circuit)
11/28: Laguna Seca
12/12: Nordschleife

!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
- If you want to join this series but aren’t already in the Oppo car club, mention that below and I’ll send an invite. We send out invites from the club screen on race days so if you aren’t a member you won’t get one and thus won’t be able to join the lobby.
- I will again remind all participants that while we expect everyone to follow
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
you’re going to have to be OK with the fact that contact
will
happen no matter how hard we all try to avoid it. Having the cars be as fair as they are means you’ll constantly be in traffic and battling for position and a bit of rubbing will be inevitable, as will more serious incidents. There will be races where you’ll get knocked off track or spun out by no fault of your own and you’ll end up finishing in the back of the pack that week; anyone who’s raced online will know that’s just a part of the game and these series will be no exception.
- That being said, there’s a very fine line between incidental contact (tapping someone’s rear bumper under braking, running a bit wide through corners, etc.) and aggressive and dangerous driving (divebombing corners, running people off the road, deliberate contact, etc.). Please don’t do any of that, drive smart and drive clean and we’ll all have fun racing.
- All relevant information (including pre-race, post-race, and other miscellaneous posts) will be posted at around 6pm EST here on Oppo and tagged ‘Fourza’; I hope to get my post-races up the following Sunday or Monday and have the pre-race post for the next round up around the same day the week after. For the first few rounds of this series I probably won’t be able to reply to any immediate comments or questions thanks to my work schedule but I’ll get around to them as soon as I can (this shouldn’t be a problem once I go back to school in late August). Any other questions just post your own thread to Oppo using the same tag or reply to us directly and one of the braintrust will eventually get around to answering you.
-
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
will be streaming races again via his
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
so even if you can’t race with us you can still watch the action. Be sure to check out
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
too.
- That’s about all I got this time. Series starts in exactly one week so bookmark this page, go build some cars, and get practicing. We’ll see you out on track.

Since we got the Boss 302R, can I run the N/A version of the ZL1? Without the park-bench aero?

06/27/2015 at 15:08 | 0 |
There’s not a n/a version of the ZL1 in the game, is there? ZL1 was supercharged from the factory and the aspiration conversion only lets you change to a TT setup. I can get on tonight and do some more thorough testing but even keeping th engine stock the ZL1 has ~100hp more than any other car in the series so it might be too fast anyways.

Youre right. There is not a N/A ZL1 in the game or likely in existance.
Not for nothing, youre kinda preaching to the choir about Hi-Perf Camaros, but that’s another conversation; I’m very aware of the performance specs on the ZL1 and the fact it comes stock with a factory S/C, and makes 580HP. For the sake of conversation, as a hardcore Chevy fan (as I imagine you may be a brand loyal Ford fan, given the moniker “SVTyler”), I simply asked for it because it is a superior body aerodynamically (and asthetically) to the Camaro SS. Just as the 2013 Boss 302 is superior in comparision to the Mustang GT 5.0. ;)
Also, as noted in another thread, both are DLC cars.
Did the testing already, but to address your concerns, there is a glitch in the system; it allows you to essentially remove the TT and the HP will then go as low as 465HP on the ZL1. (If you look, the GS spec car I put in the club garage is only making 535HP right now.)
If you are trying to keep them all A600 spec, it may be a moot point for the ZL1 anyway because of the weight reductions vs HP being way off, and adversly affecting several specific performance PI ratios. I’m not sure that the ZL1 when reduced to 465HP(?), and at race weight, and on race tires will fall under the A600 requirement; I will throw on the Forza Aero assist and look and see if it can reel it in enough to make the regulation A600 spec happen.
Actually, IMO, it really wont be about the HP advantage, because of the above mentioned weight reduction factor. Its about having builds with similar performance specific PI. Due to the big disparity in race weights and HP for all the cars (the ZL1 and Challenger are pigs), the percieved HP advantage is negated by the race weight reduction in cars with less factory HP, AND by building up HP in those other similar cars (Boss 302, Mustang GT 5.0, Camaro SS, and SRT Challenger). That makes it important for the specific performance PI specs on the cars to be comparable (I imagine that the car specific build requirements you stipulated for this Grand Am/Rolex series accomplished the same thing.) During testing by me and “Viggen, Gulf Forza Driver” (as we discussed in your last thread), “Ideas for Next Fourza Racing Series,” all the sample cars in the club garage are all close in on-track performance capabilities (1-2 secs per lap) as the builds are based on performance specific PI (Speed, Launch, Accel) similarites (within about .5 pts). They all ran very close lap times; the GS build spec Boss 302R ran within a .5 second of the ZL1 and Aston Martin. So, though there may be a 100 HP varience between some cars (ex: Mustang GT 5.0, Challenger, vs the 370Z and 997 Porsche), they put up competitively close actual lap times, due to the performance specific PI’s (mentioned above) being close.
Bottom line is, regardless of the PI, with the BOP differences allowed, the overall final deciding factor will be the individual racers ability to consistently match target lap times.

I’m definitely running that Maserati. Gonna make that Ferrari V8 sing and represent Maranello as best I can without driving a Ferrari. I might run it on sport tires just to get a race exhaust on there and really let it belt out the notes, it’s not like that behemoth of a grand tourer will corner anyway.
Is the Audi S5 staying AWD or would people have to convert it to RWD?

You’d be surprised, the GT is actually in the top three as far as handling and lap times are concerned. ANd the S5 is RWD, edited the post.

Did not know about the turbo glitch. I built my own A600 ZL1 with 465hp weighing around 3700lb and it lapped Mugello in the 2:02’s and hit ~150 at the end of the front straight, same as the other cars so I’ll add it to the list. Seems like you’re right, the weight and horsepower balance each other out pretty well.

I know the cars are tuned to be even at the moment, but can we add a race transmission to the build list? It would really help with tuning. Or did you not allow them to keep the cars even?

Gonna be completely honest, it didn’t even occur to me while building these cars that you can’t tune gear ratios without a race trans... shit. Ummmmm... unless there’s a massive revolt against it I think I’ll just keep the cars as-is without race transmissions just for simplicity’s sake but yeah, that’s a huge fuckup on my part.

I’m very seriously considering the ZL1 myself, both Camaros drive extremely well (who’da thought) but the ZL1 has the highest handling stat of all the eligible cars. Bit of tuning and it could end up driving on rails.

Haven’t decided on dates because this post is a work-in-progress, in hindsight I probably should’ve saved it as a draft instead of publishing it to my personal blog. Races are every Saturday beginning the 11th most likely and here’s what we’re expecting as far as driving etiquette goes. We also have another series in the works that will run concurrently with this one so be on the lookout for that as well.
Let me know your gamertag and I’ll get you into the car club.

Not a bad idea, iirc there’s a manufacturer decal so we wouldn’t even have to go find a decent storefront vinyl. I had thoughts that this was like the Rolex Grand-Am series (no number plates) but honestly whatever anyone wants to do is fine, I’ve got NASCAR numbers on my Camaro in the pic.

Why dont we just make a Rolex Grand Am logo?
RIP: Rolex Sports car series, 200o-2013
Though I will particpate in the Grand Am series, and any of the other undecided Opplock chosen series, I plan to set up and administer the Continental Tire Sprts Car GS Series. (Spent too much time testing and tuning to just throw away the builds, plus its my personal favorite race series).
I will likely start it up around the July 17-19, TBD. It will likely be held as a race series option on late Friday, or Saturday nights (EST) or Sunday afternoon ALTERNATIVE OPTION for those that cant make the regularly scheduled Grand Am series due to work, social, or family scheduling conflicts (or if you’re like me, dont have much of a social life anyway). ;)

Second idea. What’s Grand Am without Daytona Prototypes? The Mosler and Radical both look generally like Gen 3 DPs. Both R3 with similar horsepower and weight. Modifications can result in a BOP. And the multiclass racing was good in the 2.4. Just throwing the idea out there after taking a spin in the Mosler.

As much as I like the idea of a multi-class series, I think we’ll just do A600 to keep things simple. There were times we only had like 5 or 6 people in a race lobby last season so it’d probably be best to keep everyone in the same class anyways just so we have people to race with.

So, since I bought a Hyundai today, I built a Genesis (regular, not the Track because I don’t have the DLC, but close enough), tuned it to A600 (Racing everything for chassis, Racing driveline except for sport transmission, max width racing tires, Forza aero mods, engine mods to hit A600), and I can only do a 2:09 on Mugello. Where am I fucking up?
Also, I’m not buying the DLC for the Genesis Track - I want to use the regular car.

I forgot that there was a regular Genesis. I’ll get on later tonight and test it out, I spent a shit ton of time making sure these cars were even so yours being off isn’t out of the realm of possibility, just a few tweaks and it should be fine.

Ain’t nothing wrong with a cheap beater. Added the regular Genesis to the list, should be competitive with the mods I made (lapped in the mid 2:02’s and hit 150ish at the end of Mugello’s main straight).

Yeah it was Rainbow’s idea, surprised we didn’t think of it sooner. He suggested a P1/GT mix like the Le Mans race which I really like; we’ve never done multi-class on a short track so it’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

I set it up like you said (with the exception of stock-diameter Lexani wheels so I could add a sport flywheel) with no fine-tuning of chassis settings and I got a 2:07 at Mugello. It likes to slide around a lot.

I’m definitely choosing one of the DLC cars so that my recently-purchased season pass won’t go to waste. Can you reply to this so I can navigate back here through my notifications, instead of searching Fourza? Thanks.

My steering wheel died, but I’m interested, even if that means using the controller (I’m
terrible
with the controller). For at least the first event or two I’ll probably give everyone a big head start and run at the back of the pack until I know I can play safely around others.

Aw yiss. Race transmissions. Now I wont be hitting 130 in 3rd. Looks like I’ll be missing the first race, though. Unless I can somehow get from North Carolina to Pittsburgh in under 8 hours. I’ll have to try and make it for tag afterwards.

They shouldn’t be too much different with the race transmission. The only real difference now besides quicker shift times is that you can change the gear ratios.

I’ll send a club invite anyways in case you ever get home early. Either way there’s another Contintental Tire-inspired series being organized up by
EricisDaywalker
that will run on Fridays or Sundays for those who can’t race Saturday. Could you give him authorship so he can share his post to Oppo proper? I can vouch for the guy, he raced with us all last season and is part of the inner circle of the club and an awesome dude. I think he actually knows camaroboy68ss in real life so you could ask him as well.

I might register myself in both the Maser and the S5 depending on the course, just done some initial testing on Sebring and for the first time I actually enjoyed that track whilst using the maser :O
1 question though, is it ok for me (on the S5) to swap the race valves, street displacement, race flywheel for race exhaust, street flywheel? it’s only 1hp and 1lbft torque less than your setup and with every other upgrade mentioned above it’s at 599

I’m thinking this wasn’t intended, but when you do the RWD conversion on the S5, it gives it a fully customizable transmission.

Yeah I didn’t realize you made that change until reading through again, but once you do the RWD conversion it doesn’t let you upgrade any of the drivetrain.
SVTyler
> That Bastard Kurtis - An Attempt to Standardize My Username Across Platforms

Those times at Mugello aren’t representative of the actual race lap time, just to compare the cars; judging by last year the actual lap time will probably be 3-4 seconds slower so you should be fine. I can get on later tonight and see what time I set at Infineon.
SVTyler

07/05/2015 at 20:41 | 0 |
Forza’s upgrade system is weird like that, I dunno. To be fair apart from the trans drivetrain upgrades don’t really do all that much anyways and since the car turns in lap times comparable to the rest of the pack it shouldn’t be an issue.

Racing transmission or wider tires on the ZL1. Tough choice. Might have to choose a different car. Actually I’ll field two different cars. Camaro in America and Maserati in Europe.

I feel as though I might be getting called out regarding the lack of practice and lapping fast. I work two jobs and I’m lucky to have the time to race on Saturday, let alone put in a couple hours testing and tuning and practicing. I’m also usually lucky to finish in the middle of the pack - mostly because my untuned overpowered car compensates for my lack of skill and inevitable Orloves.
If this is going to be a super serious hardcore MLG Faze Clan racing series instead of something approachable for everyone, I’m going to have to bow out this season.

I only included it because of the people who were complaining about it last year (and for the record you weren’t the person I was referencing). You know us, we don’t really give a shit about any of that as long as we have fun racing, just try and be fair to everyone else while doing it. Not saying that you haven’t obviously but different series and different rules.

If you would please just use the settings in the post. As close as your specs are, if I let you then everyone will want to change their setups and it could throw off BoP and overall competitiveness (which several people complained about last year). Not trying to be Hitler about everything, just trying to appease the masses.
